Back to Gotham
Hard to believe it is now the 10th Anniversary of Batman Miniatures Game. My first experience was downloading the pdf, printing it off and getting my first set which was Arkham Asylum Joker. I was really enjoying playing the XBox 360 game and have loved Batman since watching the TV series when I was younger.
My original crew with Harlequin Rebirth.
Being able to build, paint and play as the iconic characters was a dream. I also enjoyed being part of the community and the Facebook page at the time Arkham City Limits, was somewhere I was able to contribute to. I was living in the North East at the time and became a sidekick, running demos, helping to organise tournaments and at our local club, ran a campaign called Gotham Civil War. I really enjoyed scratch building my terrain as well as searching the latest mdf kits.
Probably my most proud creation was my Batcave which really helped for doing demo games. Things have changed 10 years later. We now have Discord, an app, 3d printing. We are also on the 3rd edition of the game. Have to admit, I have been a bit late to the party, I’d played 3rd edition a few times but had not purchased the new set.
Back to Gotham
I purchased the new set from my friend https://rampage-games.com. I had seen the first Back to Gotham set but had missed out on that one. I wanted to be able to do demo games for Batman again so I thought this set would be ideal. So what do you get in the set?
The starter set has everything you need to start playing. You have enough models for two crews. Batman being one with cops as his allies and then Harlequin with her goons and Deadshot as some hired muscle. Also included is a rule book, tokens, measurement sticks, dice and cards for objectives and cards for the characters as well.
One of the other changes is the material the models are made from. Originally they were metal, second edition saw a migration to resin which at times could be brittle. This new material is more soft and has a bit more give. Some of the components were fiddly for me. There was an element of customisation but I would have preferred it if the heads had hats sculpted on them to be honest, but it is a minor thing. The level of detail is amazing and I love all the poses. The Batman included is very reminiscent of Todd McFarlane’s Batman from Year 2.
I have been a massive fan of Todd McFarlane and at one time had an enviable collection of his Amazing Spider-Man and Spawn runs. I am now working my way through painting the set and will be having a battle report on this blog next month.
